LEVEL 1. TRANSFORM - Transformative Education for Social Inclusion and Integration

BRIDGE Main Challenge: A.5. Discrimination, racism and sociocultural polarisation, including hate speech

What problem does it address?

European VET systems struggle to include migrants, refugees and marginalised learners, who face discrimination, limited culturally-responsive teaching and unsupportive learning environments. Refugee and foreign-born learners show higher drop-out rates, while educators often lack training in intercultural competence and trauma-informed practice.

What does it propose?

TRANSFORM builds VET educators' capacity through a 4-day Train-the-Trainer course grounded in transformative education, alongside a certified micro-credential course of 60 adaptive challenges for students to build critical thinking, social integration and professional skills.

Why is it an inspiring practice?
  • It combines educator training with a certified student micro-credential
  • It is grounded in trauma-informed, culturally-responsive pedagogy
  • It is co-created and piloted with six partners across six countries
  • It is Fully open-access, multilingual Open Educational Resources
  • It embeds critical reflection on institutional power and privilege

LEVEL 2. EXPLORE BEST PRACTICE

Introduction

TRANSFORM-Transformative Education for Social Inclusion and Integration strengthens inclusion and diversity in European Vocational Education and Training (VET), particularly for migrants, refugees and marginalised learners. Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, it develops a 4-day Train-the-Trainer course and a 60-challenge certified micro-credential for students, grounded in transformative, trauma-informed and culturally responsive pedagogy, with all resources open-access and translated into partner languages.

  • Coordinating organisation: Meath Community Rural and Social Development Partnership (MCRSDP)

  • Duration: 01/01/2023-31/12/2025
  • BRIDGE Main Challenge: A.5. Discrimination, racism and sociocultural polarisation, including hate speech
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • SDG 4: Quality Education
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
Secondary Challenges
  • A.1. Structural and intersectional inequalities that shape inclusion and social cohesion
  • A.3. Educational gaps throughout educational trajectories, including higher education

The Challenge

What social issue does it address?

The project TRANSFORM addresses the social issue of the exclusion and insufficient integration of people from diverse cultural and migration backgrounds within education and society, particularly through barriers to inclusive vocational education and training (VET).

Why is it important?

Inclusive VET is essential for social cohesion and labour-market integration in an increasingly diverse Europe. Without adequately trained educators and inclusive environments, migrant and marginalised learners remain at risk of exclusion from education and employment.

How does it contribute to the BRIDGE Challenge?

TRANSFORM addresses A5 in VET by equipping educators with concrete tools—training, competency frameworks and micro-credentials—to build discrimination-free, culturally responsive classrooms across six European countries.

How does it work?

TRANSFORM co-creates resources through participatory workshops, then pilots a 4-day Train-the-Trainer course covering transformative, trauma-informed pedagogy, alongside a certified micro-credential course of 60 adaptive challenges addressing integration barriers faced by migrant and diverse VET students. Feedback from pilots feeds continuous refinement and open dissemination as OERs.
