LEVEL 1. YURI: Urban–Rural Intercultural Dialogues

BRIDGE Main Challenge: A.4. Fragmented management of cultural diversity and weak institutionalisation of intercultural dialogue

What problem does it address?

Inequalities between urban and rural areas can limit young people’s access to opportunities, resources and spaces for participation. The lack of opportunities for young people from different territorial and cultural contexts to meet hinders mutual understanding and may contribute to the persistence of prejudice and stereotypes. YURI addresses these barriers through intercultural dialogue and community cooperation.

What does it propose?

YURI promotes intercultural dialogue, youth participation and social cohesion by creating spaces for young people from urban and rural backgrounds to meet and collaborate. In this way, it fosters the development of intercultural competences and the implementation of collective initiatives with an impact on their communities.

Why is it an inspiring practice?
  • It places young people at the centre of learning processes and recognises them as agents of change.
  • It promotes collective and green entrepreneurship as a means of responding to community needs.
  • It produces open-access educational resources and training and methodological materials.
  • It fosters networking among young people, communities, youth workers and European organisations specialising in this field.

LEVEL 2. EXPLORE BEST PRACTICE

Introduction

Intercultural Urban-Rural Youth Dialogues for Collective Entrepreneurship (YURI) is an Erasmus+ project that promotes intercultural dialogue between young people from urban and rural areas by creating spaces for interaction focused on collaborative learning and sustainable collective entrepreneurship. Through a participatory and experiential approach, the project fosters the development of initiatives led by young people themselves to address needs identified in their communities, while also producing open educational resources.

The Challenge

What social issue does it address?

Inequalities between rural and urban areas in educational opportunities, access to resources, youth participation and community development highlight the need to establish mechanisms for intercultural coexistence among young people. These spaces help to challenge simplistic and stereotyped perceptions, fostering a better understanding of diverse realities and greater cooperation in addressing shared challenges.

Why is it important?

Strengthening intercultural dialogue and cooperation among young people promotes a vision of diversity based on mutual recognition, inclusion and the collaborative development of projects with a community impact.

How does it contribute to the BRIDGE Challenge?

YURI contributes to Challenge A.4 by creating spaces for intercultural dialogue and cooperation among young people from rural and urban areas. Through participatory methodologies and collective projects, it promotes the development of social, civic and intercultural competences and provides transferable tools to strengthen coexistence and youth participation.

How does it work?

YURI is implemented through a participatory and experiential approach that begins with identifying needs and compiling good practices. A specific methodology is then designed and developed to create spaces for interaction among young people, complemented by workshops and training activities. The process culminates in the production of educational resources and policy and institutional recommendations.
