LEVEL 2. EXPLORE BEST PRACTICE

Introduction

AI-LITERATE is a transnational higher education initiative addressing generative AI, disinformation and critical digital literacy. Through research, blended training, real-world case analysis and co-creation, it develops the capacity of students, teachers and institutions to understand, critically assess and ethically use AI while supporting its responsible integration into education.

  • Coordinating organisation: Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland
  • Participating countries: Belgium (BE), Croatia (HR), Italy (IT), Poland (PL), Portugal (PT)
  • Duration: October 2025- september 2027
  • BRIDGE Main Challenge: A.7. Digital ecosystem, disinformation and the need for media literacy and critical thinking
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • SDG 4: Quality Education
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
  • SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Secondary Challenges
  • A.1. Structural and intersectional inequalities that shape inclusion and social cohesion
  • A.3. Educational gaps throughout educational trajectories, including higher education
  • A.5. Discrimination, racism and sociocultural polarisation, including hate speech

The Challenge

What social issue does it address?

Generative AI is transforming how information and knowledge are produced and shared, while also increasing the risks of misinformation, deepfakes and algorithmic bias. Unequal levels of AI and digital literacy make students and staff more vulnerable to misleading content and unethical or uncritical uses of AI.

Why is it important?

AI is increasingly embedded in higher education and everyday life. Developing the capacity to assess information critically and understand the risks, limitations and ethical implications of AI is therefore essential for education and informed digital citizenship.

How does it contribute to the BRIDGE Challenge?

AI-LITERATE strengthens media, digital and AI literacy by helping students and staff identify disinformation, critically analyse AI-generated content and understand algorithmic bias. It promotes critical thinking and responsible participation in the digital ecosystem

How does it work?

The practice combines research, blended learning and participatory methodologies. Surveys and interviews identify AI literacy needs, followed by case analysis, collaborative workshops, a MOOC, face-to-face training and student bootcamps. Feedback is used to continuously improve the resources and activities.
